Historical Origins
The Jangar Epic originated in Oirat Mongolian communities, with roots tracing back to the 15th century. It reflects the historical struggles and aspirations of western Mongolian tribes.
Artistic Features
The epic comprises 12 major chapters, each telling a separate heroic story. It features rich imagery, vivid character portrayals, and elaborate battle scenes. The narrative structure combines prose and verse.
Current Status
Preserved by dedicated Jangarchi (epic singers) in Xinjiang's Bayingolin and Bortala regions. Academic research and digital documentation efforts are ongoing.
